Dyslexia Identification & Literacy Assessments
At NLC, we offer comprehensive literacy assessment services
designed to support students at every stage of learning.
Our services include a dyslexia screener for early insight or to determine if further evaluation is necessary, a full dyslexia evaluation for in-depth identification (Grades K-12), and a literacy profile assessment to better understand a student’s strengths, skills, and areas for growth.
Each assessment provides meaningful data to guide next steps and is followed by a
personalized review to ensure families have a clear understanding of results and
feel confident with recommendations to support student success.
Dyslexia
Screener
If you're curious or concerned about your child's risk for dyslexia, the Test of Dyslexia Screener (TOD-S) is a great place to start.
This no-cost screening provides a Dyslexia Risk Index (DRI) to help identify students who may be at risk for dyslexia and determine whether a full evaluation is recommended.
Parents receive a written recap of their student's Dyslexia Risk Index and academic recommendations to support growth.

Comprehensive Dyslexia
Evaluation

Here at NLC, we utilize The Test of Dyslexia (WPS, Mather, N., McCallum, R. S., Bell, S. M., & Wendling, B. J., 2024) to provide a comprehensive look into each student's literacy profile.
The TOD assessment provides a Dyslexia Diagnostic Index, allowing for accurate identification of dyslexia across all age groups, beginning as early as Kindergarten.
-
Grades K-2: The TOD Early evaluation is designed for students in Grades K-2 and focuses on foundational literacy skills and early indicators of dyslexia as early intervention is highly effective.
-
Grades 3+: For students in Grades 3 and up, the TOD Comprehensive evaluation offers a deep analysis of reading, spelling, and language-based skills. The TOD-C produces three index scores: Dyslexia Diagnostic Index (DDI), Reading and Spelling Index (RSI), and Linguistic Processing Index (LPI) to ensure a complete view of a student's literacy profile.
Each assessment is followed by a parent review meeting and detailed written report for a clear picture of assessment results as well as academic recommendations to help families feel confident in their journey.
Literacy Skills Profile
A Literacy Skills Profile Assessment provides a clear picture of a child's literacy skills & current performance on essential areas within skilled reading.
Here at NLC, a Literacy Profile Assessment identifies key areas in reading, as recognized by the National Reading Panel (2001):
-
Phonological Processing
-
Phonics Skills
-
Fluency
-
Vocabulary
-
Reading & Language Comprehension
-
Written Expression
We use valid, professional assessments to ensure results
are accurate and meaningful, helping families understand their child's strengths and identify areas where additional support
can help them grow.
Families are provided with an in-depth written report & recommendations for continued growth.
All intervention sessions begin with a Literacy Profile
Assessment session to ensure instruction is
tailored to each student.
